We came in peace for all mankind

Neil Armstrong, my hero. As an eight year old I watched the broadcast of Neil taking the first human steps on the moon (02:56:15 UT July 21, 1969). A true 20th Century adventurer, Ulyssean in stature, his passing is a great loss. And even now as Curiosity takes it first tentative trundle across the Martian landscape we have to pay respect to people like Armstrong. His ‘one small step’ was such a ‘giant leap’ that history will surely record that this guy was a giant on whose shoulders will stand the generations of astronauts and explorers to come. Next time the moon is full, gaze on the Sea of Tranquillity and remember Neil.
